| Schendel Soars to the Top at Iowa Sparta, WI (Monday, July 21, 2008) – This past weekend Tim Schendel and Iron Eagle Racing soared to the top at Iowa Speedway. The event brought in nearly 15,000 fans in attendance a long with touring stars Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth to compete in the event. Schendel was fast around the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway all day Saturday for practice and then again on Sunday for more practice, qualifying and the Twin 75’s. “The car was awesome,” stated Schendel. Tim was able to stay at the top of the board for all but one of the practice sessions and was also able to claim the fast qualifier title as well. Schendel proved how fast he was as he picked up his first ECHO “Blows Away the Competition” award Sunday at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA. Schendel set a fast time of 22.919 seconds (137.441 mph). “All around it’s a fast car and I know its going to be fast in the long run. We made a 15 lap run yesterday and it would stay at the same speed lap after lap. Hopefully we will get up front, hang out, get some clean air and have some fun!” And get up front was exactly what Schendel did! With the invert, Tim started the race in the twelfth position. It didn’t take long for Tim to charge his way up to front as he claimed the second position by lap 17 with Kyle Busch in the lead. There he held that position until around lap 45 when he and Jonathan Eilen battled for the second position for quite a few laps. Tim ended up tucking in behind Eilen in the third spot until the break at lap 75. “The car was running real good until around lap 45. The car started to get really tight and I had to struggle with it until the break after the first 75 laps,” commented Schendel. After a few adjustments were made there was no looking back for Tim. Tim was able to make the passes on Eilen and Busch for the lead by the fourth lap of the second segment of racing and from there on out it was free sailing for Schendel as he gained at times a 30 car length lead on the other lead lap cars. “It’s a relief actually because we knew we were capable of winning,” Schendel stated after the race. “To get this, this is awesome and it’s a relief to get a pole and a win.” “Everybody has put in such long hours, me and Chris Bires (crew chief) we worked almost until 3 in the morning probably for two weeks with getting everything ready for this weekend and it paid off. We put a lot of work into it and my dad put a lot of money into it along with all of our sponsors and everybody involved. They all gave 100% and I have to give 110% also.” The next event for Schendel will be Tuesday, August 5th at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI for the running of the SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150. |
